iPhone 8 release could be delayed as Apple faces supply shortages

Apple may have to delay the launch of the upcoming iPhone 8 due to shortages in supplies, according to reports. 

The company may have to postpone the release of the ten-year anniversary edition of the iPhone, originally expected to be unveiled in September, by one or two months because of supply constraints, according to bloomerg

The iphone 8 which may be called as iphone X is expected to be completely redesigned. While the form of the phone is not clear yet, it could have an all glass body, edge-to-edge display and no home button.

Apple is rumoured to be working on three versions of the phone, including a 4.7-inch model, a 5.5-inch Plus size and a premium handset that has a screen size similar to the Plus but a body closer to that of the smaller phone.

The premium device is expected to have an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) curved screen that almost entirely fills the front of the phone.

In order to maximise space on the premium device Apple may embed the home button within the screen, in a similar way to how Samsung has designed the Galaxy S8, Bloomberg reports. It has also considered embedding the fingerprint sensor within the screen, but this could be too technically challenging to make it to the final product. 

Apple is still testing different designs for the three iPhone 8 handsets, tweaking the way the phone curves at the edge and the material used on the back of the device, which could be glass, stainless steel or aluminium.

The phones are expected to have more advanced cameras than the iPhone 7, which could be compatible with augmented reality software and have better depth-of-field capabilities. They could also feature wireless charging and come with a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port that has been a staple since the iPhone 5. 

They could also run on a 10-nanometer chip, which would be more efficient and allow for a longer battery life than the current 16-enanometer ones used in the iPhone
