Chinese phone giant Xiaomi has unveiled a brand new smartphone during a Beijing press event – meet the Xiaomi Mi6.

Despite being a relatively unknown name in the west, Xiaomi has shot to global success since the launch of
its first smartphone in 2011. Now one of the biggest phone makers in the world, Xiaomi battles with giants like Samsung and Apple for top-five sales rankings globally. That’s why you should probably care about the company’s latest flagship phone, especially considering its powerhouse specs and bargain pricing.
The Xiaomi Mi6 features Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 835 chip, which is only featured on a handful of phones to date. This means the phone takes advantage of a highly efficient 10nm processor; the same chip is used in Samsung’s new Galaxy S8, for reference.

But the phone also features 6GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel dual-camera arrangement, and a sizeable 3,350mAh battery. The screen measures 5.15 inches and has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, resulting in a decent 428ppi pixel density. There are 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options, and there’s a front-mounted fingerprint sensor to boot.

You can get the phone in a range of colours, including: Silver, Grey, Gold, Rose Gold, and Purple. When it goes on sale (at an unspecified date), the phone will cost 2499 yuan for the base model – that’s about £285/$365. That's a real bargain when compared to the Galaxy S8's starting price of £689. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that the Xiaomi Mi6 will ever make it to British or US shores, so don’t get your hopes up.

We gave the Xiaomi Mi5 – this new phone's predecessor – a respectable 4/5 score in our review, praising the handset's attractive design, high-end specs, impressive screen, quick and detailed camera, and cheap pricing.
